ABA THERAPY

ABA Therapy

What Is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding behavior. ABA utilizes evidence-based interventions based on the principles of learning theory to support the development of new skills that bring about meaningful change to the individual and his or her family.

Some of the skills targeted in ABA therapy include:

»   Learning to communicate and interact with others

»   Developing self-control and self- management skills

»   Learning skills of daily living such as dressing and using the bathroom

»   Learning to play independently and with others

»   Improving academic skills such as reading and math

»   Decreasing challenging behavior such as self-injury or aggression

»   Building independence

With ABA Therapy & Family Care

Together we can offer your child a better future.

How does ABA Therapy Work?

ABA Therapy typically follows these general steps; however, these experiences are individualized based on each child’s needs.

  1. A qualified BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) will lead and oversee a child’s therapy program.
  2. After a detailed assessment of the child’s strengths and underdeveloped skills, the BCBA will design an individualized program targeting developmentally appropriate skills including communication, social skills, self-care skills, play skills, and academic skills.
  3. Highly qualified and trained behavior therapists, working under the direct supervision of a BCBA, will help the child achieve these goals using prompting, modeling, and lots of positive reinforcement.
  4. Therapists take data continuously to monitor which skills are improving, which skills are not progressing, and how the program may need to be modified to ensure the child’s success.
  5. The BCBA will meet with the family regularly to review the child’s progress and make any needed changes to the program.
